TRANSFORMING FUNDRAISING & SUPPORTER COMMUNICATIONS.

In the UK alone there are over 400,000 UK charities, and in 2021 people in the UK donated £10.7 billion to the causes closest to their hearts, down from £11.3 billion in 2020.

The long term effect of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis on charities’ ability to fundraise remains to be seen, as charities are in a uniquely tricky position. Not only are their day-to-day operational costs going up, but for many are likely to see increased demand for their services.

Services need to be funded, sometimes entirely, by donations from the public, many of whom will also be feeling the squeeze. Donations are likely to be one of the first outgoings to stop when times are hard. A perfect storm.

  • As supporter bases decline, charities must work hard to recruit new supporters that ‘look’ and behave like their best existing supporters, as efficiently as possible.
  • Key to this success is understanding existing supporters’ motivations and propensity to give, channel preferences, frequency of gifts, cross-selling opportunities, the list goes on.
  • Not all charities have the ability to capture comprehensive data about their supporters or the capacity to analyse their data to make informed decisions. This affects charities both large and small.

Access to data, trends and insight to inform future planning and decision making is crucial – data and insight is key to the success of charity fundraising.

£10.7 BILLION

DONATED IN THE UK IN 2021

Down from £11.3 billion in 2020.

As well as recruiting new supporters, developing loyalty is fundamental to the success of the charity sector.

Loyalty is built through:

  • trust
  • transparency
  • supporter experience

A great experience with the charity, and the feeling of making a difference will make supporters feel good about donating again, and again, and again – through repeat one-off gifts, committed giving and ultimately a gift in a will.
